Our 3 day and 2 night adventure with Outdoor Odysseys was a total success. The guide was a pro. It takes skill and courage to get on the water with a bunch of novices. The instruction and paddling was fun and doable. Kayaking is very approachable and fun. We plan to go again next summer. The experience can be summed up as stunning nature, low-key glamping (camping without the work of hauling or setting up or cooking), exercise and plenty of chill.Posted on Pamela MacPheeSeptember 27, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. "Epic Kayak & Camping Adventure – Hunter Made It Unforgettable!" Sept 20-22, 2024 I recently had the pleasure of joining Hunter for an incredible 3D2N kayak and camping tour, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! Hunter's knowledge of the local wildlife and environment truly enhanced my adventure. Along with two brothers from Brussels who were also on the trip, I learned so much—from spotting red-beak oyster catchers to identifying the stunning madrona and manzanita trees. Hunter had an amazing way of explaining the differences between harbor seals and Steller sea lions, and even shared fascinating facts about bull kelp and its role in the ecosystem. Safety was always a top priority for Hunter, which gave me peace of mind throughout the trip. The equipment was in great condition, from the sturdy tandem sea kayaks with spray skirts to the comfortable tents. We were lucky enough to spot a whale during the trip, although we didn’t see any orcas this time—something to look forward to on my next visit! The weather was fantastic for the first two days, especially considering it was the "shoulder" season. The final day brought a bit of drizzle, and the sea was a little choppier, but it only added to the fun and adventure of the trip. A memorable moment was meeting a fisherman on Henry Island who told us the waters were full of “King” salmon, which made the experience even more special. On top of that, Hunter clearly loves to cook and took pride in preparing delicious meals, including his mom’s Turkey Chile recipe made from scratch! Each meal was a highlight, with local ingredients like San Juan Island kale adding a special touch. Hunter kept things light and fun with his raccoon jokes, and I was amazed when he told us about the massive weight of eagle nests—it’s hard to believe they can be that large! He truly made the trip unforgettable, sharing insights about everything from wildlife to the area's rich history. If you're looking for an adventurous, informative, and all-around enjoyable tour, Hunter is your guy! I can’t recommend this experience enough and am already looking forward to returning.Posted on Shane MSeptember 24, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been on two multiday outings. In both trips the staff was professional, knowledgable, and experienced. They exceeded my expectations each time by taking the time to know what each persons goals for the trip were. I highly recommend the Stuart island trip, it is exhausting but well worth the effort!Posted on Kerry CodySeptember 23, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The whole trip was outstanding - even for those of us who had never kayaked before! Our guide Caroline went above and beyond. She patiently coached, taught, and encouraged, and cooked amazing meals, all the while teaching us about the islands, the currents, and the various sea creatures and plant life. I have been recommending this trip, our guide Caroline, and Outdoor Odysseys to my whole family and other friends!!!Posted on Bigi RitterSeptember 22, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did a carcamping trip from Atlanta, GA to Washington JUST to make this kayak/camping adventure. This adventure was absolutely fantastic. I had never camped, never kayaked and was on my own. I met the group and our guide after a ferry trip from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Our guide (Carl Cain) was a young, interesting, knowledgeable mountaineer with tons of experience with the kayaking, camping and people control. Our group of 8, including Carl, became fast friends quickly. The kayaking was somewhat challenging at 6-7 hours/day but it was easy, beautiful and fun (BTW, I'm a fit 71 yo woman). We did not see whales but we saw otters, seals, eagles, goats, deer, starfish, multiple sea life among the cliff walls. The food was amazing! This was one of the most beautiful, fun and educational trips I have ever enjoyed. I plan to do this again!
