Intrigued with the idea of sea kayaking but don’t want to sleep on the ground or go without a shower for three days? Then you’ll love our three-day combination kayak, hiking and island exploration tour! Our outings feature small intimate groups, personable naturalist/guides, cozy lodging and superb meals.
All levels of experience are welcome on this tour. If you’ve never kayaked before our guides will take as much time as you need on land to show you to paddle and steer correctly. We use wide stable kayaks that are really difficult to tip over.
We’ll spend our days on scenic San Juan Island - one of the crown jewels of the San Juan Archipelago. Our naturalist/guides gladly share their knowledge of the unique cultural and natural history of the islands. Using stable, two person kayaks we’ll paddle for two days among the numerous rocky, tree covered bays and coves of San Juan Island. The west side is, hands down, the best place in the lower 48 to observe over 80 resident orca whales as well as bald eagles, seals and otter. We return to the States Inn, our bed and breakfast for a relaxing shower and head into town for fine dining featuring fresh seafood and other superbly prepared NW cuisine.
Our “island exploration day” begins with an easy 2-3 mile walk with outstanding views of the Olympics and Mt. Baker. Next, we’ll have a picnic lunch at Whale Watch Park followed by a hike up Mt. Young, which affords superb views of the Canadian and American San Juans. We cap off the day with a wine tasting at San Juan vineyards. Then we head back to our bed and breakfast for a shower and another fine dining experience in Friday Harbor.
